Sweet, sweet Alvin, I haven't written in a long time - but I think of you every day. I feel grateful that you were my first dog and taught me how powerful the love between an owner and a dog can be. I have not had a pet since the early 80's when my Smokey died. Losing you made me realize, now as an adult, that the pain was worth it. All that love, so many great memories, - I wouldn't change a thing.
Yesterday I had to use my nebulizer for the first time since you died. You were the only one who knew exactly what to do when I'd have an asthma attack. You were never scared of the noise of the machine. You would quietly come sit next to me and your calm presence would comfort me. As I sat on my bed yesterday with the tube in my mouth, tears rolled down my face as I recognized the deep loss I felt in your absence. You will never be forgotten pal, not ever.
I got the crazy rescue dogs that you sent me - boy do they need me!! Every now and then one of them does something and we say "they are channeling Alvin!" Trixie started eating apple cores wrapped in paper towel if the are accidentally left out and Goober gets your rare winky condition occassionaly. Jake and I know it's you saying hi! Love you my fat man!!!
